'Journey' is a soulful, cinematic music video depicting the African diaspora in Seoul

Following the release of his first single of 2023, ‘Jazz Club’, New York City-based DJ and producer Mike Nasty delivers a smooth, deep and soulful groover titled ‘Journey’.

Making up his ‘Journey from Memphis’ EP, the single dropped on 28 February with a cinematic music video that was filmed in Seoul, Korea, and directed by Seung Lee; the video is centred around Peris Kagiri, who plays the role of highlighting the African diaspora that’s reached beyond the US and the UK, with a focus on Asia.

Kagiri’s spoken word over Nasty’s driving soulful house aesthetics is a “story that depicts the life of an African woman who lives in Seoul and speaks Korean. She’s from Kenya but moved out there to pursue modelling,” Mike Nasty tells Mixmag Asia.

He continues, “The concept of ‘Journey' is meant to show African-Americans that our diaspora reaches beyond just the US, UK and Africa. In the video she’s describing her time in a new country and how she’s adjusting to the lifestyle. This story of her journey was recorded on tape and sent back to America to my character.”
